Jeremy Rifkin

American thinker and scholar Jeremy Rifkin will be the exclusive guest of the 10th edition of the Nuits Sonores festival within the second edition of the European Lab for festivals, the international think tank dedicated to the festival as an object and to cultural innovation.

American globally acclaimed essay writer, author of major best-sellers such as « The European dream » and « The end of work »), advisor at the European Union and for many governments, he has just published « the third industrial revolution ». An essential book which reveals leads to get out of our triple economic, energetic and environmental dead-ends. He also reminds us that the industrial revolution is mostly a convergence of new energetic systems and new technologies of communication which will transform us as a whole as well as our social model. After petrol and television, here come sustainable energies and the web ! Most of all, here is the « Horizontal » power model, frame, network, instead of vertical, hierarchic power.

In this perspective, the presence of Jeremy Rifkin at the European Lab of Nuits Sonores is very meaningful.

Supported by the European Union since 2011, Nuits Sonores has been questionning for the last 10 years the definition of a music festival. The festival has always been defined as a laboratory for experimentation and exploration with the  ambition of defending innovative cultures, their diversity and their aesthetics. The goal is also to defend an urban and independent cultural project, ambitious and different from the institutional model, in its form and its program.

Nuits Sonores today is more than ever focused on diversifying the audience, being opened to European artistic cooperation, solidarity and sustainable development and innovation.

For the 10 year anniversary, Arty Farty, the team in charge of the festival, will collaborate for the first time with the National Rhône Company.

The CNR, first producer of sustainable energies in France, becomes a great partner of the European Lab for festivals with the aim of supporting the whole reflection which will attempt to bring innovation into this field. Arty Farty and the CNR have in common a permanent reflection on the future, a strong territorial feeling and ambition to cooperate with local partners. Inviting  Jeremy Rifkin in Lyon is our first common initiative.
